A meta-analysis approach to compare technical efficiency studies in livestock production systems

This paper is based on previous papers where the technical efficiency of cattle and other livestock production systems was estimated. Meta-analysis of published studies is characterised by organised literature search. An extensive literature search is performed and different sources of variation are pointed out. The literature search was conducted using the Internet, the University Library services, and also exploring the most recognised impact journals included in the data bases of the JCR and other prestigious indexes. This search includes the studies collected in papers published in the most important scientific journals covering the period of years 1993 – 2014 and also covers all the geographical areas of the world. The total of 99 papers considered contains an overall of 223 studies covering all the areas of the world during the period considered, and also different production systems, approaches, methodologies and orientations in order to deal with technical efficiency assessment
