In the near future it is expected that the electricity demand be provided by renewable-dominated power systems. Since most of renewable energies are non-dispatchable, an appropiate scheduling of reserves is crucial in order to supply demand at minimum cost. In current power systems, reserve can be provided by dispatchable generating units and demands.
Recently, the stochastic economic dispacth problem has been proved to be useful to determine the day-ahead scheduling as well as the reserve requirements. We compare different risk-averse formulations for co-optimizing energy and reserve considering the uncertainty involved in demand and renewable production. The proposed formulations are tested in a realistic case study based on the Iberian Penninsula Power System.
